Manchester City Close in on Tijjani Reijnders as First Summer Signing – But Battle for Florian Wirtz Heats Up

Dutch midfielder dreams of Pep Guardiola reunion as €50m deal nears, while City also eye Wirtz and Olmo in attacking overhaul

Manchester City are on the verge of securing their first major signing of the summer, with AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders edging closer to a dream move to the Etihad.

According to Sky Sport Switzerland, the 26-year-old Netherlands international has reached a provisional agreement on personal terms and sees playing under Pep Guardiola as a “dream come true.” City have reportedly beaten Real Madrid to his signature after Reijnders made it clear he favored a switch to the Premier League champions.

Deal Not Yet Done – Fee Negotiations Ongoing

While a draft contract is in place, the two clubs still need to agree on a transfer fee. City are pushing to wrap up the deal quickly and have already probed Milan’s valuation, believed to be around €65 million. The Premier League giants are preparing an opening bid of €50 million plus performance-related add-ons, which could hinge on both Reijnders’ individual contributions and the team’s success.

However, previous reports suggested Milan would demand at least €71 million—a figure that would make Reijnders their record sale. Regardless, the Italian club stands to make a massive profit on a player they signed for just €20.5 million in 2023.

Wirtz Remains Top Target, But Olmo Looms as Backup

Meanwhile, City are also pressing ahead with plans to replace the departing Kevin De Bruyne, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz their No. 1 target. However, competition is fierce—Bayern Munich and Liverpool are also in the race, making a deal difficult.

As a fallback option, City have explored a move for RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo, with reports suggesting they’ve already laid the groundwork for a €60 million deal. Guardiola could exploit Barcelona’s financial troubles to swoop for the Spanish playmaker, but Wirtz remains the priority.
