Manchester City Closing In on €50M Transfer for Lens Star Abdukodir Khusanov

Lens Head Coach Confirms Negotiations as Uzbek Defender Nears Historic Move

Manchester City are on the brink of securing a blockbuster transfer for Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov, in what could become the most significant sale in the French club’s history. Lens head coach Will Still has acknowledged that talks are underway for the Uzbekistan international, whose potential €50 million transfer would be 500 times the amount Lens paid for him just 18 months ago.

Khusanov, 20, joined Lens from Energetik-BGU Minsk in the summer of 2023 for a modest fee of €100,000. Since then, he has developed into a standout performer in Ligue 1, solidifying his place as a regular starter this season. His rise has caught the eye of Manchester City, who are reportedly in “very advanced” negotiations to bring him to the Premier League, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The center-back was notably absent from Lens training on Friday as the team prepared for their weekend clash against Le Havre. While his absence has fueled transfer speculation, head coach Still clarified that Khusanov’s absence was due to illness.

“He’s sick,” Still told reporters. “He was in the gym today with others. But let’s be honest—we’re aware that negotiations are happening, and things are progressing. We’re not in the dark here.”

Still also suggested that any updates on the deal could emerge soon, adding, “For now, he’s still with us. If something changes, you’ll probably know about it before I do.”

Khusanov’s rapid rise at Lens has been impressive. After starting as a bench player, he earned his spot in the starting lineup this season, missing only a few games due to suspension. His performances have demonstrated maturity and composure, qualities that have drawn City’s attention.

If the €50 million transfer is finalized, it will not only mark a milestone for Lens but also cement Khusanov’s status as one of the most talked-about young talents in football.
