Red Devils Explore Napoli Striker as Rashford Signals Desire for “New Challenge”
Manchester United are reportedly eyeing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen as a potential replacement for Marcus Rashford, who has expressed his openness to leaving Old Trafford. According to 90min, United have been in contact with Osimhen’s representatives as uncertainty looms over Rashford’s future with the club.
Rashford’s recent exclusion from United’s matchday squads, including the Manchester derby, has intensified speculation about his departure. In a candid interview with journalist Henry Winter, the 27-year-old admitted he is “ready for a new challenge,” adding that his exit would come without “hard feelings.”
“I’ve had nine years in the Premier League, and it’s helped me grow as a player and person,” Rashford said. “When I leave, I’ll make a statement, and it will be from me. No negativity, no regrets.”
The England international, who earns over £300,000 per week, was left out of United’s 2-1 derby win over Manchester City and the subsequent 3-0 loss to Bournemouth. Manager Ruben Amorim defended his decision, stating, “It is my decision, and it always will be. I want to see the best of my players and try different things.”
Reports suggest Amorim is eager to trim the first-team squad in January, with Rashford likely among the names heading for the exit. Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and clubs in the Saudi Pro League are rumored to be interested in signing the forward.
In anticipation of Rashford’s potential departure, United officials are considering Osimhen as a replacement. The 24-year-old Nigerian striker, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, is regarded as one of Europe’s top attacking talents. Despite nearly joining Chelsea last summer in a deal that fell through, Osimhen remains a highly sought-after player.
Osimhen’s addition could help United bolster their attack as they navigate a transitional period under Amorim. However, with Rashford’s departure and Osimhen’s potential acquisition both uncertain, the January transfer window could mark a pivotal moment for the Red Devils.
As the situation unfolds, fans and pundits alike will watch closely to see how Manchester United navigates one of their most high-profile squad shake-ups in recent years.
