Red Devils ready to bid, but Slovenian star yet to choose between two Premier League giants
Manchester United are prepared to launch an official bid for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko—but only if the 21-year-old gives them the green light, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The race for Sesko’s signature has narrowed to a head-to-head battle between United and Newcastle, with both clubs pushing hard to secure the highly rated Slovenian forward.
Newcastle have already made their move, submitting an €80 million offer this week as they search for a replacement for Alexander Isak. The Swedish striker has reportedly asked to leave St James’ Park, with Liverpool lining up a potential British record deal to sign him.
United, meanwhile, have made contact with Sesko’s camp and are waiting for his decision before formalizing their own bid. Romano revealed on Sunday that the situation remains finely balanced.
“Newcastle have sent a bid, and negotiations are ongoing with Leipzig,” Romano said on his YouTube channel. “They’re ready to pay whatever it takes if Sesko chooses them. But Manchester United are also prepared to act—they’ve told Leipzig they’ll bid if the player signals he wants to join. Right now, it’s 50-50.”
Sesko’s agent is currently in Leipzig, suggesting a final decision could come soon. The young forward enjoyed a breakout season, netting 21 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions, including 18 in the Bundesliga. He also represented Slovenia at Euro 2024, adding to his growing reputation as one of Europe’s most promising attackers.
Arsenal had previously shown interest in Sesko before signing Viktor Gyökeres, but now it’s United and Newcastle fighting it out. Leipzig are open to selling—provided they receive an acceptable offer.
With the transfer saga reaching its climax, all eyes are on Sesko. Will he choose the historic pull of Old Trafford or the ambitious project at Newcastle? The answer could reshape both clubs’ attacking futures.
