Manchester United Boss Amorim Set to Block Kobbie Mainoo Loan Exit

Manager determined to keep frustrated midfielder at Old Trafford despite interest from Napoli and Chelsea.

Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim is preparing to block a January loan move for midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, despite growing frustration from the player and serious interest from abroad, according to reports.

Italian champions Napoli have identified the 20-year-old Englishman as their top midfield target for the winter window, with manager Antonio Conte personally pushing for a deal to bolster his squad for the Serie A title defense. Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the talented youngster.

However, Amorim has no intention of letting Mainoo leave, even temporarily. The Portuguese coach views him as an important squad player, especially with several United stars, including Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo, set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Mainoo, once heralded as one of the club’s brightest academy prospects, has seen his progress stall this season. Despite impressing under previous management, he has struggled for minutes in a crowded midfield and has been left out of several matchday squads recently.

The player was already eager for a loan move last summer to secure regular playing time and aid his development, with ambitions of forcing his way into England’s plans for the 2026 World Cup. His patience is now wearing thin as his opportunities remain limited.

Reports from Italy suggest Napoli are ready to offer a straightforward loan, covering Mainoo’s full wages and guaranteeing him a key role under Conte. They believe the move would benefit all parties, giving Mainoo vital experience while United could monitor his growth from a distance.

For now, however, Amorim appears steadfast, signaling that Mainoo will need to fight for his place at Old Trafford as United navigate a busy second half of the season.
