Manchester United CEO Reportedly Holds Talks with Xavi Amid Ten Hag Pressure

With United’s struggles persisting, discussions reportedly begin with managerial candidates, including ex-Barcelona coach Xavi

Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada has reportedly held talks with former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez as part of potential succession planning, according to sources. United manager Erik ten Hag remains under mounting pressure following a disappointing start to the Premier League season, compounded by a lackluster recent draw against Fenerbahce, despite a 2-1 comeback win over Brentford. The Dutch manager’s future appears increasingly uncertain as United endure their worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign.

Ben Jacobs, a well-respected football journalist, has reported that United have reached out to Xavi via intermediaries, while the Daily Mail claims Berrada personally traveled to Spain for ‘secret’ discussions with the 44-year-old. United are also reportedly eyeing other high-profile managers, including Ruben Amorim, Edin Terzic, and Brentford’s Thomas Frank, as they consider future leadership options.

Amorim, currently linked as a potential successor to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, has drawn attention from several clubs, while Terzic has been rumored for a return to the Premier League with West Ham. Frank, meanwhile, has publicly expressed doubts about whether the United role would suit him. Despite the interest in these candidates, the scarcity of viable replacements was reportedly one of the reasons for retaining Ten Hag at the end of last season.

As talks with potential successors emerge, Ten Hag faces increasing scrutiny to turn results around and reaffirm his place in the United dugout.
