Manchester United Close to Signing Paraguayan Talent Diego Leon

17-Year-Old Left-Back Set for Medical as Ruben Amorim Eyes Future Reinforcements

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing of 17-year-old Paraguayan left-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteño, according to his agent, Renato Bittar. While the move won’t provide an immediate solution to United’s struggles, it marks the first significant acquisition of the Ruben Amorim era.

Leon, a highly-rated prospect in his native Paraguay, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for weeks. The transfer has been widely confirmed by sources close to the player, and now fans have received a key update. Speaking to journalist Bruno Pont, Bittar revealed that Leon will travel to Manchester in the coming days to undergo his medical.

“Diego Leon and I will travel to Manchester soon, where he will complete medical tests,” Bittar stated.

Although the deal appears imminent, Leon will not join United’s squad until the summer, as FIFA rules prevent international transfers of players under 18. The teenager will celebrate his 18th birthday in April, paving the way for his arrival at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are expected to pay between €3.8 million and €5 million for Leon, a move signaling the club’s commitment to investing in young talent despite financial constraints.

Challenges for Amorim at United
The signing comes at a challenging time for manager Ruben Amorim, whose tenure at Manchester United has gotten off to a rocky start. The Portuguese coach, known for his tactical acumen, has faced difficulties implementing his system, with the team enduring a four-game losing streak.

United’s struggles have been compounded by well-documented Profit and Sustainability Rule limitations, which have hampered the club’s ability to spend in the January transfer window. Leon’s acquisition is unlikely to address the immediate issues on the pitch but represents a step toward reshaping the squad for the future.

Fans will be eager to see if this move sparks more activity in the transfer market as United look to turn their season around under Amorim’s guidance.
