Senne Lammens
Red Devils scouts tracking Belgian talent as goalkeeper situation remains in flux
Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close eye on Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, as concerns over their current shot-stopper, Andre Onana, continue to grow.
After David de Gea’s departure in 2023, the club seemed to have found a long-term solution in Onana, who arrived from Inter Milan. Despite an early string of mistakes, the Cameroon international began to settle into Premier League life, showing his ability as a reliable goalkeeper. However, recent weeks have seen the 28-year-old slip back into costly errors, raising fresh doubts about his consistency.
Blunders in key matches, including against Nottingham Forest, Viktoria Plzen, and a direct concession from a corner against Wolves, have left fans questioning Onana’s form. His backup, Altay Bayindir, has also struggled in limited opportunities, most recently during a Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham.
As a result, Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation is once again under the microscope. According to The Telegraph, Red Devils scouts have been monitoring Lammens, the 22-year-old Belgian who has been impressing at Royal Antwerp. The young goalkeeper has recently replaced Jean Butez as the club’s No. 1 and is earning widespread attention for his performances. It is believed that Borussia Dortmund are also interested in the promising talent.
While Manchester United are not planning to make a goalkeeper signing in January due to financial constraints, Lammens could be a top target come summer, especially if Bayindir seeks regular first-team action elsewhere.
For now, Onana remains the club’s first-choice keeper, but his future at Old Trafford is uncertain, with a possible reshuffling of the position looming in the near future.
