Napoli Open to €40 Million Plus Hojlund Offer as Osimhen’s Future Hangs in the Balance

Manchester United are reportedly preparing a bold move to secure Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer, offering €40 million plus Danish forward Rasmus Hojlund in a potential swap deal. According to reports, Napoli are willing to accept the cash-plus-player exchange, with manager Antonio Conte said to be a keen admirer of Hojlund.

The proposed deal comes as United look to revamp their attacking options after two underwhelming seasons from Hojlund. The 21-year-old arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2022 from Atalanta in a deal worth up to €85 million, but he has struggled to live up to expectations. With just 23 goals in 80 appearances and a mere two Premier League goals this season, Hojlund’s time at United appears to be nearing an end.

Osimhen, on the other hand, is one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers. The 26-year-old Nigerian is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, where he has been in scintillating form, scoring 22 goals in 28 games across all competitions. Despite his success on the pitch, Osimhen’s relationship with Napoli has been fractured since last season, following a public fallout that included a controversial TikTok post mocking his penalty miss.

Napoli’s new manager, Antonio Conte, has made it clear that Osimhen has no future at the club, paving the way for a permanent exit this summer. Osimhen’s contract includes a €75 million release clause for foreign clubs, but United’s offer of €40 million plus Hojlund could provide Napoli with a more flexible solution.

The striker’s standout campaign during Napoli’s 2022-23 Scudetto win, where he scored 26 league goals in 32 games, remains a testament to his quality. However, Napoli’s disastrous title defense last season, which saw them finish 10th in Serie A, further strained Osimhen’s relationship with the club.

For Manchester United, securing Osimhen would be a statement signing as they aim to rebuild under manager Erik ten Hag. The potential swap deal not only addresses their need for a prolific number nine but also allows them to offload Hojlund, whose struggles have made him a target for criticism.
