Club’s Financial Woes and Hojlund’s Goal Drought Complicate Summer Transfer Plans
Manchester United are growing increasingly concerned about their ability to sell Rasmus Hojlund this summer, as the young striker’s dismal form continues to cast doubt over his future at Old Trafford. Hojlund, 22, has managed just two Premier League goals in 21 appearances this season and is currently enduring a 16-game goal drought across all competitions. With only four teams scoring fewer goals than United in the league this campaign, the club is desperate to overhaul its attacking options, leaving Hojlund’s position in jeopardy.
According to reports from GIVEMESPORT, United fear that Hojlund’s poor performances will make it difficult to attract permanent suitors for the Danish forward. The club’s financial constraints, exacerbated by their likely absence from European football next season, mean they must sell players before funding new signings. Hojlund, who arrived from Atalanta in 2023 for a hefty €74 million, is among those deemed expendable. However, United have reportedly accepted they will not recoup their initial investment and may have to consider loan deals or retaining him as a squad player if no suitable offers materialize.
The situation has left incoming manager Ruben Amorim in a tricky position as he looks to rebuild United’s attack. Alongside Hojlund, the club is also hoping to raise funds by offloading high-earning players such as Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia, all of whom were loaned out in January.
United’s top target to replace Hojlund is said to be Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, with the Italian club reportedly willing to part ways with the Nigerian striker for €70 million. However, Osimhen would need to accept a significant wage reduction to make the move to Old Trafford feasible. Should a deal for Osimhen fall through, United are reportedly eyeing Liam Delap, the 22-year-old Ipswich Town forward, who is seen as a more affordable and long-term option.
For now, much hinges on Hojlund’s ability to rediscover his form in the remaining weeks of the season. A resurgence in his performances could reignite interest in the striker and provide United with much-needed leverage in the transfer market. However, if his struggles persist, the club may be forced to make tough decisions as they aim to balance the books and rebuild under Amorim’s leadership.
