United Moves Swiftly to Seal Amorim’s Appointment; Portuguese Coach Expected to Take Over Ahead of Chelsea Clash
Manchester United has reached a complete agreement with Ruben Amorim to become the club’s next manager, according to insider Fabrizio Romano. After swiftly identifying the 39-year-old Sporting CP manager as their primary candidate to replace Erik ten Hag, United’s discussions evolved rapidly, with the club prepared to cover Amorim’s reduced €10 million release fee.
In a post on X, Romano confirmed, “Contract, project, and details of the agreement between Ruben Amorim and Man Utd are 100% in place. He’s the man wanted by all those involved in the management area.” Negotiations to finalize compensation terms with Sporting CP remain ongoing, with both sides aiming for a swift resolution.
Meanwhile, a report from Portuguese publication A Bola highlights United’s determined approach to bring Amorim on board.
The club is reportedly sending a three-man delegation to Lisbon today to finalize the agreement, even as Sporting faces Nacional in a Portuguese League Cup quarter-final tonight. This match could mark Amorim’s last game in charge of the Lisbon side.
For now, Ruud van Nistelrooy will act as interim manager, leading United in their League Cup match against Leicester on Wednesday. However, reports from The Times suggest that United’s leadership is pushing to unveil Amorim in time for Sunday’s highly anticipated Premier League match against Chelsea.
