Red Devils Make U-Turn on Defender’s Future Amid Interest from Saudi Clubs
In a surprising change of direction, Manchester United are now in active talks with Harry Maguire over a new contract, just months after it seemed the defender’s time at Old Trafford was coming to a close.
The English centre-back, 32, is entering the final six months of his current deal, which would have allowed him to formally negotiate with other clubs in January. Reports had previously linked Maguire with a move away, and he has since attracted interest from two clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
However, in a significant U-turn, the club hierarchy has initiated face-to-face talks with Maguire’s representatives in recent days. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, discussions are ongoing as United attempts to secure the future of the player they signed for £80 million from Leicester City in 2019.
This move signals a major shift in Maguire’s standing at the club. After being stripped of the captaincy and struggling for consistent playing time, the former club captain has fought his way back into the plans of manager Erik ten Hag. United now appear keen to hold onto the experienced defender, ensuring his leadership and depth in the squad rather than seeing him leave for free next summer.
