The Red Devils’ path clears as PSG focuses on other targets, paving the way for a January move.
Manchester United’s pursuit of Victor Osimhen has received a major boost after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) officially pulled out of the race to sign the Nigerian striker. The Ligue 1 giants, who were seen as United’s main competition, have shifted their focus to acquiring a winger instead of a natural number nine.
The change in strategy came after PSG manager Luis Enrique reportedly convinced the club’s hierarchy to prioritize wide attacking options, leaving United as frontrunners to secure the Napoli-owned striker’s signature.
Osimhen’s Path to Old Trafford
Reports indicate that Manchester United are prepared to meet Osimhen’s release clause, valued at €75–90 million, while also offering Galatasaray €10 million in compensation to end the forward’s loan deal early. Osimhen is currently on a dry loan with Galatasaray, where he has flourished, scoring 13 goals in 16 appearances this season.
The Nigerian star has expressed his desire to join the Premier League side, further solidifying United’s position as favorites to land him. Napoli is reportedly open to selling Osimhen in January to fund their own transfer targets, while Galatasaray is less inclined but would be forced to comply if the clauses are met.
From Napoli to Galatasaray: A Rollercoaster Journey
Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray last summer followed a turbulent period at Napoli. The striker fell out of favor with the Serie A club’s management, including new head coach Antonio Conte. His relationship with Napoli soured further after the infamous TikTok scandal last season, where the club’s social media team mocked him for a penalty miss.
Despite enduring a challenging 2022-23 campaign with Napoli, where the team finished a disappointing 10th in Serie A, Osimhen was pivotal in their Scudetto-winning season a year prior, netting 26 goals in 32 league games.
When no permanent transfer materialized in the summer, Osimhen opted to join Galatasaray to avoid spending the season sidelined at Napoli. The 26-year-old has since reignited his form, attracting renewed interest from top European clubs.
A Strategic Signing for United
Manchester United’s need for a top-tier striker is urgent as the club looks to bolster its attack. With PSG no longer a contender, the Red Devils are in a strong position to finalize a deal for Osimhen.
If successful, the transfer could mark a significant turning point for both the player and the club, as United seeks to challenge for titles and Osimhen looks to reignite his career at the highest level.
The January transfer window now holds the key to whether this high-stakes move will come to fruition.
