Red Devils Ramp Up Pursuit of Danish Talent Amid Transfer Window Tensions
Manchester United have intensified their efforts to secure the signature of Lecce’s rising star, Patrick Dorgu. The Premier League giants are seeking reinforcements for both the left wing-back and winger positions, identifying the versatile 20-year-old as an ideal candidate. Amid a backdrop of interest in players such as Antony, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho, Dorgu has emerged as a priority target.
Dorgu, a Denmark international, has showcased his adaptability this season, excelling as both a left-back and a right-winger for Serie A side Lecce. His performances have drawn significant attention, and United recently opened formal talks with Lecce. Earlier this week, the Red Devils tabled an initial bid of €27 million, which Lecce promptly rejected, holding firm on their valuation of €40 million — a price they had set during the summer transfer window.
Refusing to back down, Manchester United have now returned with an improved offer, reportedly worth €30 million, according to sources including The Athletic and Fabrizio Romano. While the new bid still falls short of Lecce’s demands, insider reports from journalist Ben Jacobs suggest it may edge slightly higher, narrowing the valuation gap to just €5 million. This renewed push indicates United’s determination to bring Dorgu to Old Trafford.
The player himself is reportedly keen on the move, further fueling United’s optimism about closing the deal. Director of negotiations Matt Hargreaves has personally traveled to Milan to engage in face-to-face discussions with Lecce officials, underscoring the club’s commitment to finalizing the transfer.
However, obstacles remain. Lecce, battling to avoid relegation, are reluctant to part with Dorgu mid-season. They view the young talent as crucial to their survival campaign and would prefer to keep him until the summer. Meanwhile, Serie A champions Napoli have also entered the fray, proposing a deal that could see Dorgu remain with Lecce for the remainder of the season, potentially making their offer more appealing to the Italian club.
For Manchester United, the urgency is clear. Head coach Ruben Amorim is eager to bolster his squad with immediate reinforcements, and Dorgu’s arrival could address multiple tactical needs. The coming days will reveal whether Lecce’s stance softens or if United must further increase their bid to land the promising Danish star.
