Manchester United Part-Owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe Set to Sell Nice

Move Aims to Overcome Transfer Hurdles and Focus on Red Devils’ Success

Manchester United part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly preparing to sell his stake in French club Nice after facing obstacles in transferring one of their players to the Red Devils.

Ratcliffe, a lifelong United fan, pledged to restore the club to its former glory when he became part-owner. Despite a recent FA Cup win, United’s disappointing eighth-place finish in the Premier League highlighted the challenges ahead.

Determined to strengthen the squad, Ratcliffe eyed Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo to fill the gap left by Raphael Varane’s departure. However, UEFA blocked the transfer due to Ratcliffe’s ownership of both clubs, citing conflict of interest rules since both teams will compete in the Europa League next season.

This regulatory hurdle has led Ratcliffe to consider selling Nice. According to Football Insider, Ratcliffe doesn’t want multi-club ownership rules to limit his efforts with United, the more prestigious brand in global football.

Selling Nice is a complex process that will take time, meaning United won’t be able to sign Todibo immediately. However, once free from the ownership conflict, Ratcliffe could target players from Nice, leveraging his knowledge of the club since acquiring it in 2019 to identify potential future stars for United.
