Manchester United Ready to Battle Newcastle for Benjamin Sesko

Red Devils prepared to match €80m bid as Leipzig eyes bidding war for in-demand striker

Manchester United are set to go head-to-head with Newcastle United in the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, with both clubs pushing to secure a deal before the transfer window closes.

The Red Devils, who have already bolstered their attack this summer with the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, are desperate to add more firepower after a dismal Premier League campaign. United scored fewer goals than all but four teams last season, finishing a shocking 15th under Ruben Amorim.

Newcastle made the first move, submitting an €80 million bid for Sesko, but Leipzig rejected the offer due to disagreements over the payment structure. Now, reports suggest Manchester United are ready to step in with an equivalent bid—and the German club is open to sparking a bidding war.

“Manchester United are ready to match Newcastle’s offer,” Sky Germany reporter Philipp Hinze revealed on social media. “Everything depends on Sesko. Leipzig would welcome a possible bidding war.”

The 21-year-old Slovenian striker has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards after an impressive season in the Bundesliga. While Newcastle’s initial bid was deemed attractive, Leipzig are holding out for better terms—and United’s interest could drive the price even higher.

Decision Time for Sesko

With both Premier League clubs pushing hard, Leipzig have reportedly set a deadline for Sesko to decide his future. Former striker and current pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft claims the player’s camp is in active discussions with the club.

“A decision must be made in the coming days,” Fjortoft stated. “Newcastle need to know if they have a real chance, while Manchester United must prove they can finance the deal. Sesko’s preference is United, but he needs assurances the move will actually happen.”

Leipzig are under pressure to sell at least one of their star attackers—Sesko, Lois Openda, or Xavi Simons—to fund their summer rebuild after missing out on European football. Simons has been linked with Chelsea, while Openda’s future remains uncertain. But Sesko’s situation appears the most straightforward, with two Premier League giants now locked in a tug-of-war.

United’s Striker Hunt

United had previously considered Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and were linked with Liam Delap before his move to Chelsea. But Sesko has now become their top target, with the club convinced he could elevate their struggling attack.

Newcastle, meanwhile, view the young forward as a potential game-changer in their quest to return to the upper echelons of English football. However, with financial constraints on both sides, neither club can afford to wait indefinitely—making the next few days crucial in this high-stakes transfer battle.

Will Sesko choose the prestige of Manchester United or the ambitious project at Newcastle? One thing is certain: Leipzig are ready to cash in, and the striker’s future could be decided very soon.
