“Nigerian Striker Insists on Permanent Move, Leaving United to Plan Summer Strategy Amid Financial Hurdles”
Manchester United remain determined to secure Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen in a high-profile transfer, but the deal poses significant financial and logistical challenges, according to transfer expert Ben Jacobs.
Osimhen, 26, has been a hot topic in recent transfer windows, with interest from Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Saudi clubs. Despite talks, the striker ultimately turned down those offers, landing at Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli. The move has proven successful, with Osimhen scoring 13 goals in 17 matches.
Osimhen recently signed a new contract with Napoli, reducing his release clause from €130 million (£109.7m) to €75 million (£63.3m). This adjustment signals his intent to facilitate a move to one of Europe’s elite clubs. However, the striker remains firm on a permanent deal, rejecting the idea of a loan arrangement.
“Victor Osimhen is a Manchester United dream target, but financially it’s very difficult, even with the release clause dropping to €75 million,” Jacobs explained to The United Stand. “Osimhen still wants his next move to be permanent, which could force United to wait until the summer.”
The transfer would also come with significant wage demands, reportedly around £250,000 per week, further complicating Manchester United’s efforts.
Osimhen’s history with Manchester United adds intrigue to the saga. Before joining Napoli, he reportedly sought advice from former United striker Odion Ighalo, who advised him against a move to Old Trafford due to concerns about playing opportunities.
Now a proven star, Osimhen has re-entered United’s radar. While the January window appears an unlikely timeframe for the transfer, the club may revisit the opportunity in the summer, depending on Napoli’s terms and the striker’s willingness to negotiate.
As Manchester United grapple with financial constraints, the pursuit of Osimhen underscores their ambition to bolster their attack with one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards.
