Manchester United Secure 3-0 Win at Southampton After Onana’s Key Penalty Save ( Video highlights)

United Bounce Back After Early Scare to Seal Comfortable Victory at St Mary’s

Manchester United earned a 3-0 win against Southampton at St Mary’s, with goalkeeper Andre Onana playing a crucial role in the turnaround. After Southampton dominated the early stages and won a penalty, Onana saved Cameron Archer’s spot-kick, swinging momentum in United’s favor.

Southampton’s 18-year-old Tyler Dibling, making his Premier League debut, started brightly and caused United’s Diogo Dalot problems, earning the Saints a penalty in the 34th minute. However, Onana’s save shifted the narrative, and United capitalized immediately. Matthijs De Ligt opened the scoring moments later, heading in from a Bruno Fernandes corner.

United grew in confidence, and Marcus Rashford doubled their lead just before halftime with a curling shot from the edge of the box. Southampton struggled to respond, and their captain, Jack Stephens, was sent off late in the game for a high challenge on Alejandro Garnacho, who later added a third goal in stoppage time.

Casemiro, benched after his poor showing against Liverpool, was replaced by Christian Eriksen in midfield. United’s defense, bolstered by Onana’s penalty save and De Ligt’s leadership, held firm, while Rashford and Garnacho’s goals ensured a comfortable victory for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Southampton’s early energy faded after Onana’s save, and despite several changes, they were unable to recover. The loss compounded Southampton manager Russell Martin’s frustrations, who was also booked for protesting the red card.
