Manchester United Secures Brazilian Star Matheus Cunha in £62.5 Million Deal

Wolves’ standout forward becomes first summer signing as United look to rebuild after disappointing season

Manchester United have kicked off their summer transfer business by signing Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha in a deal worth £62.5 million. The 26-year-old, who enjoyed a stellar season with Wolves, is set to join the Red Devils on a five-year contract, with the option for an additional year.

The club confirmed the move in an official statement, saying: “Manchester United has reached an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha. Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford.”

Cunha was in Manchester over the weekend to finalize personal terms, with the transfer pending visa approval and registration formalities. The Brazilian international, who has earned 13 caps for his country, was Wolves’ top performer this season, netting 18 goals across all competitions and earning the club’s Player of the Year award.

Since joining Wolves from Atletico Madrid in January 2023, Cunha has been a key figure, scoring 33 goals in 92 appearances. His arrival marks the first major signing under new manager Ruben Amorim, who is tasked with revitalizing a United squad that endured one of their worst campaigns in decades.

The Red Devils finished a dismal 15th in the Premier League—their lowest final position since 1973/74—and suffered further heartbreak with a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham. Fans will hope Cunha’s attacking flair can help spark a turnaround as the club aims to return to its former glory.
