Danish striker faces uncertain future as Red Devils target Sesko replacement
Manchester United have shockingly placed a £30 million price tag on Rasmus Hojlund as they look to offload the struggling Dane this summer, according to BBC Sport reports. The 21-year-old striker finds himself in footballing limbo as United aggressively pursue RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko to lead their attack next season.
A Striker in the Shadows
Despite publicly vowing to “fight for my spot,” Hojlund appears destined for the exit door after just one underwhelming Premier League campaign. The young forward managed only four league goals last term – a disappointing return for a £72 million signing who arrived with sky-high expectations.
“I’m staying focused and working hard,” Hojlund told reporters this week, though his words ring hollow as United’s hierarchy prepares his departure. The striker has reportedly already rejected the possibility of being used as a makeweight in the Sesko deal, telling club officials he has no interest in moving to Leipzig.
The Bomb Squad Exodus
Hojlund finds himself among an unwanted group of players – dubbed the ‘bomb squad’ – that includes Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho. This fire sale comes as new minority owners INEOS attempt to reshape the squad, having already brought in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Diego Leon this window.
Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton offered a sympathetic view of Hojlund’s struggles: “Have United been providing him chances? The answer is no. But has he done enough? That’s the nagging doubt. His attitude is good, but has he ever been prolific?”
A Potential Villa Revival?
Stan Collymore believes a move to Aston Villa could resurrect Hojlund’s career: “He’s aching for someone to put an arm around him. Villa could afford him, and it’s exactly the stepping stone he needed before a big club move.” The Liverpool legend added that United’s handling has “shattered” the young Dane’s confidence.
As United’s summer overhaul continues, Hojlund’s predicament highlights the brutal reality of modern football – big-money signings get little time to prove themselves. Whether he stays to fight or becomes another expensive mistake remains to be seen, but at £30 million, several clubs might view him as a bargain worth gambling on.
