Uncertainty Looms Over Ten Hag Ahead of FA Cup Final Against Man City
A source inside the Manchester United dressing room has shared how the team reacted to reports that manager Erik ten Hag could be sacked after the FA Cup final. The Dutchman faces mounting pressure following an underwhelming 2023/24 season, which sees the team finishing eighth in the Premier League. Despite the stakes of today’s showdown against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium, rumors suggest Ten Hag’s fate may already be sealed.
According to reports, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who recently purchased a minority stake in the club, is considering potential replacements for Ten Hag. Candidates include Thomas Tuchel, Kieran McKenna, and Mauricio Pochettino, who just parted ways with Chelsea. This situation mirrors the fate of Louis van Gaal, who was dismissed in 2016 despite winning the FA Cup.
The Daily Mail reports that the squad was not surprised by the news of Ten Hag’s potential sacking after two years at the helm. Ratcliffe has yet to give Ten Hag a public vote of confidence, fueling speculation about the manager’s future.
When asked if he planned to meet with INEOS, Ratcliffe’s company, after the cup final, Ten Hag said, “No, we already did and on Sunday I will go on holiday – I deserve it. It is not necessary to have assurances; we’ll go for next season. Of course, we are together. Since January, INEOS has been part of this club and they want us to win trophies.”
Ten Hag, who led Manchester United to Carabao Cup success last season, hopes to add the FA Cup to his achievements. However, even a victory against Manchester City might not be enough to secure his job.
