Manchester United’s Transfer Plans Hit Snag as Wan-Bissaka Demands Multi-Million Pound Pay-Off

Deal for Bayern’s Noussair Mazraoui Hinges on Defender’s Departure

Manchester United’s efforts to offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka and bring in Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui have hit a stumbling block, as the English defender is reportedly demanding a substantial pay-off to leave Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been active in the transfer market this summer, spending £90 million to secure Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee, with more signings anticipated in the coming weeks. The club is also seeking a new central midfielder, though they have turned their attention away from Manuel Ugarte due to PSG’s firm stance on their asking price.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his recruitment team are continuing their search for a new midfielder while negotiating with Bayern Munich for the signings of Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently stated that Manchester United “expect” to complete deals for the Bayern duo before the transfer window closes.

“Manchester United are still confident and are sending very good messages to the players – both Mazraoui and De Ligt – with confidence to get the deal done,” Romano said. “With Bayern, there is still no agreement because Bayern want €50 million guaranteed for De Ligt and something around €20 million for Mazraoui. So a package of €70 million, but Manchester United want to pay less than this. So the conversation is ongoing, but with confidence that De Ligt is only waiting for Manchester United.”

However, the proposed move for Mazraoui is contingent upon Wan-Bissaka’s departure. West Ham are currently leading the race to sign Wan-Bissaka, but Serie A’s Inter Milan are also attempting to secure the defender.

Complications have arisen, as reported by The Sun, with Wan-Bissaka demanding a multi-million pound pay-off to leave Manchester United. While West Ham are willing to meet United’s £18 million valuation for Wan-Bissaka, they cannot afford his wage demands, leaving the deal in a state of uncertainty.

“Wan-Bissaka is open to joining West Ham, but has no huge desire to leave United and is refusing to sell himself short,” the report explains. The 26-year-old has less than 12 months left on his contract at Old Trafford and could secure a substantial signing-on fee by leaving on a free transfer next summer. His representatives are pushing for United to give the player a portion of the £18 million fee they will receive from West Ham to facilitate the move this summer.

The former Crystal Palace defender has been on a £90,000-a-week contract at United since joining the club five years ago and is seeking a significant wage increase, which West Ham cannot offer. Inter Milan remains interested in Wan-Bissaka, and he could sign a pre-contract agreement with the Italian club in January if the West Ham move falls through.
