Maybe Love Isn’t for Me – Tiwa Savage Opens Up About Failed Relationships

Afrobeats Queen Reveals She’s Never Experienced True Love Beyond Her Son

In a heartfelt revelation, Afrobeats sensation Tiwa Savage has shared that despite her fame and success, she believes she’s never truly experienced love—except for the bond with her 10-year-old son, Jamil.

The 44-year-old singer, in a candid interview with Zeze Mills, reflected on her past relationships, including her highly publicized marriage to former manager Tunji “Teebillz” Balogun, admitting they were built on infatuation rather than genuine love.

“I don’t think I’ve experienced true love apart from my son,” Savage confessed. “Looking back at all my relationships, I realize—nah, that wasn’t love. I was just infatuated. Even in my marriage, I thought it was love at the time, but now I know it wasn’t.”

The Koroba hitmaker, who divorced Teebillz in 2018 after five years of marriage, expressed resignation about finding romance, saying, “Maybe love isn’t for me. I’ve tried over and over again, so perhaps it’s just not meant for me in this lifetime.”

Fans have flooded social media with support for the singer, with many praising her honesty about the realities of modern relationships. Others have pointed out how her experiences mirror the themes in her recent music, including her 2023 EP Water & Garri.

As Savage continues to dominate the global Afrobeats scene, her emotional confession serves as a reminder that even superstars grapple with the same personal struggles as their fans. For now, she says, her focus remains on her music and being the best mother to Jamil—the one love she knows is real.
