Public praise for Bayern’s Upamecano and private backing for Liverpool’s Konate reveal striker’s influence in transfer plans.
Real Madrid’s new superstar, Kylian Mbappe, appears to be doing more than just settling into his new team on the pitch. The French striker is now actively shaping the club’s future, having personally endorsed the signings of two of his international teammates: Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano and Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate.

Ahead of France’s World Cup qualifier against Ukraine, Mbappe was effusive in his public praise for Upamecano. Speaking to reporters, he placed the Bayern defender among the world’s elite.
“He’s doing very well, he’s very confident, full of self-assurance,” Mbappe said, as reported by Marca. “He’s in the debate about who is the best defender in the world… He’s capable of running with the forwards, of winning duels. He’s a tactical asset.”
In a playful tease that will surely excite Madrid fans, Mbappe added, “When you talk about a player of this calibre, all the clubs will be on the lookout to sign him.”
But while his comments on Upamecano were for the cameras, Mbappe’s advocacy for Konate is happening behind the scenes. According to reports from Spanish media outlets including Defensa Central, the striker has spoken “very highly” of the Liverpool centre-back to Real Madrid officials, recommending the club pursue his signature.
This internal endorsement carries significant weight as Madrid plots its defensive reinforcements. Konate is entering the final year of his Liverpool contract, while Upamecano will be a free agent next summer, making both players attractive targets.
It seems that for Mbappe, helping Real Madrid build the best team possible is already a top priority, and he’s starting with the heart of the defense.
