French Star’s Lawyers Freeze Club Accounts as Contract Feud Turns Ugly
Kylian Mbappé has launched an aggressive legal offensive against former club Paris Saint-Germain, with lawyers revealing they’ve frozen €55 million of the club’s funds in a dramatic escalation of their wage dispute. The France captain’s legal team confirmed the move Thursday while appealing directly to France’s sports minister and UEFA for intervention.
“We’re going on the attack,” declared Mbappé’s lawyer Delphine Verheyden at a fiery press conference, detailing how Paris courts had authorized account seizures earlier that morning. The dispute stems from what Mbappé’s camp claims are unpaid loyalty bonuses from his final year at PSG before joining Real Madrid last summer.
The conflict turns increasingly personal, with Mbappé’s attorneys filing a harassment complaint alleging PSG pressured him to extend his contract in 2023. “They employed unacceptable tactics to force his hand,” claimed lawyer Pierre-Olivier Sur. PSG maintains Mbappé reneged on a “legally amended” agreement, telling Reuters they’d been seeking an “amicable solution” since October.
While UEFA confirmed the case could impact PSG’s Financial Fair Play compliance, the governing body stressed it awaits French authorities’ final ruling. The Ligue de Football Professionnel previously ordered PSG to pay, only for the French federation to block enforcement due to parallel civil proceedings.
The bitter fallout tarnishes Mbappé’s legacy as PSG’s all-time top scorer (256 goals) after his free transfer to Madrid. Last January, both sides had pledged to preserve “club serenity” – a truce now shattered by courtroom battles that could redefine player-club contract disputes across European football.
