The star captain, granted a rare leave from international duty, scored in his club’s final home game before rejoining his national team.
Lionel Messi is back training with the Argentine national team after a short, approved return to Inter Miami, where he led his club to a 4-0 victory on Saturday. The 38-year-old was initially left out of Argentina’s squad for their friendly against Venezuela last Friday, with manager Lionel Scaloni granting him permission to play for Miami in a critical MLS season finale.
This special arrangement allowed Messi to help his club secure a higher playoff seed and home-field advantage. He made the most of the opportunity, scoring the first goal in what was Inter Miami’s final match at Chase Stadium before their move to a new venue in 2026.
Having fulfilled his club commitment, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has now rejoined his international teammates. Messi is expected to play for Argentina in their next friendly against Puerto Rico, set to be held at the same Chase Stadium. The Argentine Football Association stated that “Leo’s return generates great anticipation” for the match, which will serve as a final tune-up for the squad.
