The Nigerian beauty queen opens up about her “traumatic” experience and plans for the future.
Chidimma Adetshina, the first runner-up of the Miss Universe 2024 competition, has officially announced her departure from the world of pageantry. In an emotional interview with Silverbird TV, the 24-year-old Nigerian beauty queen revealed that her decision stems from a deeply personal journey and the challenges she faced during her time in the spotlight.
A Shock to the System
Reflecting on her Miss Universe journey, Chidimma described her experience as overwhelming and emotionally taxing.
“Finishing in the top 2 is still a shocker for me,” she shared. “Honestly, I am done. Pageantry was a real traumatic experience for me.”
The former Miss Universe Africa and Oceania titleholder explained that while the accolades brought her global recognition, the pressure and scrutiny took a toll on her mental well-being.
“There were times when I almost quit during the competition,” she admitted. “I’m really done with pageantry. I want to focus on myself, establish who I am, and further my education.”
A Stellar, Yet Challenging, Career
Chidimma’s retirement marks the end of a remarkable career in pageantry. She made history by winning the Miss Nigeria title after withdrawing from the Miss South Africa competition, where her nationality had come under intense scrutiny. Her rise to prominence culminated in her Miss Universe 2024 success, where she earned widespread admiration as a symbol of African beauty and resilience.
Despite her achievements, Chidimma emphasized the importance of prioritizing her well-being and personal growth over public recognition.
Future Aspirations
As she steps away from the pageantry world, Chidimma is setting her sights on new goals, including advancing her education and exploring other avenues of self-expression.
While her departure leaves a void in the industry, her story serves as a reminder of the often-unseen challenges behind the glamour and an inspiring example of prioritizing mental health and personal fulfillment.
