The Egyptian star’s secretive London lunch with his former captain fuels speculation of a potential January move to Saudi Arabia.
Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool appears increasingly uncertain after he was spotted in a discreet meeting with former teammate Jordan Henderson in London on Wednesday. The private lunch, coming just days after Salah publicly criticized manager Arne Slot, has ignited fresh transfer speculation with the January window on the horizon.
The pair, who played together for six years at Anfield, were photographed deep in conversation for 90 minutes at an upscale Chelsea restaurant. An onlooker noted that Salah appeared to be asking Henderson numerous questions during the meal.

The timing is significant. Henderson spent a brief, ill-fated six months in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Ettifaq before returning to Europe earlier this year. Their meeting is widely seen as Salah seeking a first-hand account of life and football in the Gulf state, as he weighs a potential mega-money move.
The Egyptian forward’s relationship with the club has been strained since he was left out of the squad for the Champions League clash against Inter Milan. Tensions boiled over last Saturday when Salah gave an explosive interview accusing Slot of “throwing him under the bus” by dropping him.
While Liverpool’s hierarchy has backed their manager’s decision, a major crossroads is approaching. Salah and Slot are set for crunch talks in the coming days before the player departs for the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt.
Saudi Arabian interest in the 33-year-old is long-standing and intense. The Pro League’s chief, Omar Mugharbel, stated plainly on Thursday that “Salah is welcome” in the Kingdom. Clubs including Al-Hilal, Al-Qadisah, and Neom are known admirers, with US MLS sides also monitoring the situation.
With Salah earning £350,000 per week on a contract running until 2027, a sale would represent a major financial decision for Liverpool. The club famously rejected a £150 million bid from Al-Ittihad in 2023. As the speculation mounts, all eyes will be on whether Salah features in Liverpool’s upcoming match against Brighton this weekend.
