Mohamed Salah Apologized to Liverpool Teammates for Explosive Interview, Says Curtis Jones

Midfielder reveals star forward sought to clear the air after “thrown under the bus” comments, as team insists the issue is now resolved.

Mohamed Salah privately apologized to his Liverpool teammates in the aftermath of his explosive public comments, midfielder Curtis Jones has revealed, a move that has helped the squad move past the recent controversy.

The Egypt star told reporters earlier this month that he felt he had been “thrown under the bus” by the club and that his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had broken down. The comments came after he was benched for a third consecutive game against Leeds United and subsequently left out of the Champions League squad to face Inter Milan.

“Mo is his own man, and he can say his own stuff,” Jones told Sky Sports. “He apologized to us [saying], ‘if I’ve affected anybody or made you feel any sort of way, I apologise’. That’s the man that he is.”

Jones described a positive atmosphere upon Salah’s return to the group for the Brighton match, where he came off the bench to provide an assist. “He was the exact same Mo. He had a big smile on his face, and everybody was exactly the same with him,” Jones said. “I guess it’s just part of wanting to be a winner, and I don’t think he will be the last.”

Despite the apology and his immediate return to action, speculation over Salah’s long-term future at Anfield persists. A full-lap wave to the crowd after what was his final club game before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations fueled rumors of a potential January exit, with interest from the Saudi Pro League remaining. Manager Arne Slot has stated the club has “moved on” from the issue following positive discussions with the player.

As Salah departs to lead Egypt at AFCON, Liverpool’s focus is on maintaining their improved form. The Reds have taken eight points from their last four games to close within two points of the Premier League’s top four, with Jones noting the squad is now “gelling well” and “past” the recent disruption.
