Mohamed Salah Praises Omar Marmoush but Urges End to Comparisons Amid Liverpool Transfer Links

Liverpool eye Marmoush as Salah’s potential successor, but the Egyptian superstar calls for patience

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has lauded fellow Egyptian Omar Marmoush as a “unique talent” while urging fans to stop drawing comparisons between them. This comes amid reports linking Marmoush, a standout at Eintracht Frankfurt, with a potential move to Anfield as Salah’s successor.

Salah, who has become a Liverpool icon with 221 goals and 99 assists in 366 appearances, is widely expected to leave the club when his contract expires next summer. Speculation has grown about Liverpool identifying replacements, with Marmoush and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo emerging as top candidates.

German outlet Bild reported that Liverpool have opened talks to explore the costs of signing Marmoush, who is valued by Frankfurt at €60 million (£50 million). The 25-year-old has been in scintillating form, scoring 14 goals and providing 10 assists in 16 matches this season.

Salah’s Cautionary Advice

While Salah expressed admiration for Marmoush, he was firm in discouraging comparisons between them.

“Omar Marmoush is incredibly talented and currently a key player for his club and the national team,” Salah told Egyptian outlet WinWin. “But I hope he can stay away from comparisons because they will keep putting him under constant pressure.

“People need to stop saying he’s ‘the new Salah.’ You can’t compare someone just starting out to a player who has achieved so much over the years. Let him enjoy his own journey and experience.”

Marmoush’s Rise and Frankfurt’s Stance

Marmoush has been pivotal for Eintracht Frankfurt this season, contributing to their strong Bundesliga campaign, where they currently sit third. The forward’s exploits, including a stunning free-kick against Slavia Prague in the Europa League, have earned him plaudits from Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller.

“I don’t think I have seen a better free-kick,” Toppmöller remarked. “The way he’s won over the crowd and his decisive contributions show he feels at home here.”

Frankfurt are keen to hold onto Marmoush at least until the end of the season, as they aim to secure a Champions League berth. Sporting director Markus Krösche dismissed speculation about Marmoush leaving in January, stating, “I think Omar feels comfortable here, so we shouldn’t always discuss transfers.”

Liverpool’s Planning for the Future

With Salah potentially set for a free transfer next summer, Liverpool are exploring options to strengthen their attack. The links to Marmoush highlight the club’s strategy to invest in emerging talent.

If Liverpool decide to pursue Marmoush, his price tag and Frankfurt’s ambitions could pose challenges. Still, the 25-year-old’s form and Salah’s endorsement solidify his growing reputation as one of Europe’s rising stars.
