Mohamed Salah Returns to Liverpool Training After AFCON

Forward Rejoins Squad Following Public Rift with Club and Manager Arne Slot

Mohamed Salah made his return to Liverpool training on Tuesday, rejoining his teammates for the first time since Egypt’s exit from the Africa Cup of Nations as the club prepares for a crucial Champions League trip to Marseille.

The 33-year-old forward took part in a gentle workout at the club’s training ground, but his availability for Wednesday’s match remains uncertain. Liverpool manager Arne Slot remained coy about his selection plans, stating last week he was unsure if Salah would feature, but added he was “happy” the player was returning.

Salah’s reintegration follows a public airing of grievances last month, where the Egyptian accused the club of throwing him “under the bus” after being benched for three consecutive games and claimed to have “no relationship” with Slot.

The tensions appeared to ease somewhat after he came off the bench to provide an assist in a 2-0 win over Brighton in mid-December, with Slot later stating the club had “moved on” from the incident.

On the pitch, Liverpool finds itself in a precarious European position, sitting ninth in the Champions League league phase. Only the top eight secure automatic qualification for the last 16, with teams from ninth to 24th facing a tricky playoff round.

Salah’s return is a welcome sight for a side in need of a spark. The reigning Premier League Golden Boot winner, who fired 29 goals in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign last season, has managed only four league goals so far in the current, more difficult season. His presence, whether from the start or off the bench in France, could prove vital as the Reds fight to secure a smoother path into the knockout stages.
