Díaz and Saibari Goals Seal 2-0 Victory, Extending Atlas Lions’ Unbeaten Run to 22 Matches
Host nation Morocco continued their commanding run at the Africa Cup of Nations on Friday, defeating five-time champions Cameroon 2-0 in a packed Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium to secure a place in the tournament’s semifinals.
Fuelled by a roaring home crowd, the Atlas Lions started aggressively and broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when Brahim Díaz guided a header past Cameroon goalkeeper Devis Epassy. Morocco continued to create chances and sealed their victory in the 74th minute through a stunning left-footed strike from Ismael Saibari.
“The atmosphere was incredible, and the players responded with heart and discipline,” said Morocco coach Walid Regragui. “We are focused on the next step.”
Cameroon, who enjoyed more possession in the second half, struggled to break down a disciplined Moroccan defense. Key attackers Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Kofane were kept quiet, and substitute Georges-Kevin Nkoudou wasted their best chance with a free header late in the game.
The win extends Morocco’s unbeaten streak to an impressive 22 matches and sets up a semifinal clash with either Nigeria or Algeria. For Cameroon, the defeat ends their campaign, leaving the Indomitable Lions to reflect on an attack that failed to ignite when it mattered most.
