Turkish Club Condemns ‘Attack’ as Buruk Plays Down Nose-Grabbing Incident
In a dramatic post-match confrontation, Jose Mourinho found himself at the center of controversy after Fenerbahce’s Turkish Cup loss to fierce Istanbul rivals Galatasaray. The heated encounter took an unexpected turn when the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager appeared to grab Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk’s nose, sparking outrage from the winning side.
The incident occurred moments after the final whistle, with Mourinho approaching Buruk in what initially seemed like a routine exchange. However, Buruk suddenly fell to the ground clutching his face, prompting accusations from Galatasaray officials.
Club Demands Action
Galatasaray’s vice-president, Metin Ozturk, did not hold back in his criticism, alleging that Mourinho had “verbally and then physically attacked” Buruk. “Where else in the world can he do this? What does he think of Turkey?” Ozturk fumed. He called on Fenerbahce to take disciplinary action before the Turkish Football Federation intervenes.
Buruk, however, sought to downplay the clash in his post-match comments. “There was nothing between me and Mourinho,” he said. “He pinched my nose from behind. There was a slight scratch. Of course, it wasn’t a very nice or elegant thing to do.” Despite his measured response, Buruk added that managers should “behave more appropriately” in such high-pressure situations.
Fiery Match Adds to Tensions
The cup clash was already a tense affair, with Victor Osimhen’s brace securing a 2-1 victory for Galatasaray at Fenerbahce’s Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

The rivalry between the two clubs is one of the most intense in world football, and Mourinho’s latest antics have only fueled the fire.
This isn’t the first time the Portuguese coach has stirred controversy in Turkey. Earlier this year, Galatasaray threatened legal action over alleged racist remarks by Mourinho, while the Turkish Football Federation previously fined and banned him for insulting a referee.
As of now, Fenerbahce have remained silent on the incident, leaving fans and officials waiting to see if further repercussions will follow.
