In a dramatic turn of events, Jose Mourinho is out as the manager of Fenerbahce. The Turkish club confirmed the departure just days after a crushing defeat to Benfica saw them miss out on a coveted spot in the lucrative league phase of the UEFA Champions League.

Mourinho, who took charge in 2024, had initially brought hope to the passionate Istanbul fanbase, steering the team to a second-place finish in the Super Lig last season. That success earned them a shot at Champions League qualification, but a painful loss to Benfica—the very club where Mourinho began his storied managerial career—proved to be the final straw for the board.

The news instantly fuels speculation about the 62-year-old’s next move. The Portuguese manager has recently been linked with a return to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest. Their current boss, Nuno Espirito Santo, hinted at a strained relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis, opening the door for a potential reunion between Mourinho and English football.
