Germany Takes Extra Measures to Maintain Secrecy Before Crucial Match Against Spain
Julian Nagelsmann and his staff are going all out to prevent any spying ahead of Germany’s Euro 2024 quarter-final match against Spain on Friday.
Germany has been impressive this summer, securing wins against Scotland, Hungary, and Denmark. Spain, on the other hand, has won all four of their matches, allowing just one goal, with standout performances from players like Nico Williams, Lamine Yamal, and Fabian Ruiz.
As hosts, Germany will need to be at their peak to overcome Luis de la Fuente’s formidable Spanish side, one of the favorites to win Euro 2024. To keep their tactics secret, BILD reports that Nagelsmann’s staff have been playing loud music on their phones to prevent any potential eavesdropping. On Wednesday morning, staff were even heard playing the theme song from the German children’s series ‘Benjamin Blümchen’ as two BILD reporters walked by.
Nagelsmann has faced spying issues before. Last year, during his tenure at Bayern Munich, detailed information about the team’s tactics was leaked to the media, showing his strategies with passing and running routines. The 36-year-old coach was understandably upset by the leaks, stating, “We have a snitch in the locker room. This bothers me a lot. Whoever is doing this is hurting every single one of us. I don’t understand his motivation, except helping the opponent.”
Nagelsmann added, “Moles are an endangered species and their search is difficult, but I don’t know if that person will be able to look in the mirror every day. I try to find out what the reason is. For me, it is always important to be able to look in the mirror at night, to treat my players and my fellow coaches well. I hope that this person can’t look in the mirror because it’s not fair.”
Germany will face Spain on Friday afternoon at Stuttgart’s MHPArena in what promises to be an exciting and intense match.
