Napoli President Takes Swipe at Man Utd as Club Eyes £45m Garnacho Deal

Aurelio De Laurentiis Claims Argentine Winger Will ‘Become Twice the Player’ Away From Old Trafford”

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has reignited his club’s pursuit of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho in explosive fashion, taking an unexpected dig at the Premier League giants while confirming the Serie A side’s interest in the 20-year-old.

The Argentina international nearly joined Napoli in January as a potential replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but the move collapsed, leaving Garnacho to extend his stay at Old Trafford. Now, following a reported fallout with manager Ruben Amorim after the Europa League final, the young forward is expected to depart—with Napoli ready to pounce.

United are reportedly keen to sell, and Garnacho himself is said to be open to a fresh start. While Chelsea had been linked, their recent signing of Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens has cleared the path for Napoli, who are prepared to pay around €52 million (£45m) to secure his services.

In a blunt assessment, De Laurentiis didn’t hold back when explaining his club’s interest. “Garnacho’s got pace, flair, and potential,” he told reporters. “But that’s not even why we want him. We want him because he’s at United. Get him out and he becomes twice the player. There’s a fault at United that I can’t explain.”

His comments come as United’s struggles continue—finishing a dismal 14th last season and failing to win the league since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013. Several players, including Scott McTominay, Anthony Elanga, and even loaned-out Antony, have thrived after leaving the club. Napoli believe Garnacho could be the next to flourish elsewhere.

With the summer window heating up, this transfer saga could become one of the most intriguing of the offseason—especially if De Laurentiis gets his way.
