Gunners left frustrated after missed chances in 1-1 draw, while Toffees extend unbeaten home run
A second-half penalty from Iliman Ndiaye earned Everton a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Arsenal, dealing another blow to the Gunners’ fading Premier League title hopes.
Mikel Arteta’s side took the lead in the first half when Leandro Trossard fired home after Raheem Sterling capitalized on a defensive error. The Belgian nearly doubled Arsenal’s advantage before halftime, but Jordan Pickford’s sharp reflexes kept Everton in the game.
The Toffees roared back after the break, with Ndiaye calmly slotting home from the spot to level the score. Arsenal pushed for a winner late on, but Mikel Merino’s headed miss and a stunning Pickford save to deny Gabriel Martinelli ensured the points were shared.
The result leaves Arsenal 11 points behind leaders Liverpool, who could extend their lead to 14 with a win over Fulham on Sunday. Meanwhile, Everton climb to 14th, stretching their unbeaten home run to six matches.
Attention now turns to Arsenal’s huge Champions League clash against Real Madrid on Tuesday before hosting Brentford in the league. Everton, meanwhile, travel to Nottingham Forest as both sides look to bounce back in their respective battles.
