Newcastle Close to €90 Million Deal for Benjamin Sesko as Man Utd Miss Out

Leipzig set to accept record bid after Slovenian striker chooses Magpies over Red Devils

RB Leipzig are poised to accept Newcastle United’s improved €90 million offer for star striker Benjamin Sesko, dealing a major blow to Manchester United’s transfer plans.

According to transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Leipzig are ready to greenlight the deal after Newcastle submitted their revised bid on Monday. The package includes an €80 million fixed fee plus €10 million in add-ons, with personal terms already agreed upon.

This comes after an initial Newcastle bid was rejected last week, but the Magpies’ persistence—and Sesko’s preference for Eddie Howe’s project—has now pushed the deal to the brink of completion. Tavolieri reports that the 21-year-old gave Newcastle the go-ahead last week after being convinced by their long-term vision.

Manchester United, who were also keen on the Slovenian forward, now face an uphill battle. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the Red Devils will only submit an official bid if Sesko signals his desire to join them—something that appears increasingly unlikely.

Newcastle view Sesko as the ideal replacement for Alexander Isak, who has requested a move away amid interest from Liverpool. Meanwhile, United had hoped to make him their new number nine after his breakout season, where he netted 18 goals for Leipzig and impressed at Euro 2024 with Slovenia.

With Leipzig willing to sell for the right price, Sesko’s future could be decided within days—leaving Manchester United scrambling for alternatives.
