Brazilian superstar nears emotional return to boyhood club amid contract termination talks
Neymar is reportedly set to make a sensational return to Santos in 2025, according to Brazilian media. The 32-year-old forward is said to have reached an agreement with his boyhood club while working on terminating his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
Struggles in Saudi Arabia
Neymar’s move to Al-Hilal in 2023 for €90 million has been plagued by injuries, limiting him to just seven appearances for the Saudi outfit. As per journalist César Luis Merlo, discussions for a contract termination are underway, paving the way for the Brazilian star to return to his roots.
A Journey Back Home
Having joined Santos at just 11 years old, Neymar rose through the ranks to make his first-team debut at 17 in 2009. During his time with the club, he dazzled fans with 136 goals in 225 appearances before joining Barcelona in 2013 for €88 million.
At Barcelona, Neymar formed a legendary trio with Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez before moving to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 for a record-breaking €222 million. His career now appears to be coming full circle, with a return to Santos marking an emotional homecoming.
Palmeiras Out of the Picture
While Palmeiras was also rumored to be a potential destination, club president Leila Pereira has confirmed Neymar will not join the team. Speaking to UOL, Pereira took a swipe at Neymar’s injury record, stating, “Palmeiras is not a medical department. I want to invest in someone who can come in immediately and start tomorrow if the coach decides.”
What’s Next?
If the deal with Santos is finalized, it would mark a significant chapter in Neymar’s career, allowing him to reconnect with the club that shaped his early years. Fans eagerly await the official announcement, which could see Neymar don the iconic Santos jersey once again in 2025.
