Super Eagles secure crucial three points despite late goal from hosts in African qualifiers.
In a hard-fought match at Polokwane’s Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday, Nigeria’s Super Eagles emerged victorious with a 2-1 win against Lesotho in their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
The match saw Nigeria break through in the 55th minute when William Troost-Ekong successfully converted a penalty kick. The team extended their lead in the 80th minute with a goal from Akor Adams, seemingly securing their victory.
However, Lesotho responded quickly with a goal from Hlompho Kalake just three minutes later, creating a tense finale to the match. Despite late pressure from the hosts, Nigeria maintained their lead to claim all three points.
The victory provides crucial momentum for Nigeria as they prepare for their final group match against Benin next Tuesday, where they will continue their pursuit of qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
