Nigerian Artists Dominate Grammy Spotlight with Historic Nominations

All-Nigerian Lineup for Best African Music Performance Highlights Country’s Global Impact

Nigeria has made a powerful mark on this year’s Grammy Awards, with Nigerian artists sweeping the nominations for Best African Music Performance. The all-Nigerian lineup underlines the country’s growing influence in global music, showcasing the immense talent coming out of the African powerhouse.

Burna Boy, a Grammy veteran, returns to the awards race with his hit single “Higher,” while Asake and Wizkid join forces on “MMS,” making them strong contenders in the category. Davido also grabs a nod for his feature on Chris Brown’s track “Sensational,” a song that also marks a Grammy debut for collaborator Lojay. Adding to the excitement, Yemi Alade earns her first solo nomination for “Tomorrow,” and Tems secures her place with “Love Me Jeje,” completing a superstar roster.

But Tems’ Grammy journey doesn’t end there. As the only African artist with multiple nominations this year, her debut album Born in the Wild is competing for Best Global Music Album, joined by fellow Nigerian star Rema, who’s up for his sophomore project Heis. In another standout achievement, Tems also earned a nod for Best R&B Song for her widely acclaimed track “Burning.”

Breaking into new territory, Nigerian-American country artist Shaboozey makes history with five nominations, including nods for Song of the Year and Best Country Solo Performance for his viral hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” Shaboozey’s impact crosses genres, with nominations in Best Remixed Recording for the David Guetta remix of his song and Best Melodic Rap Performance for his collaboration on Beyoncé’s “Spaghetti.”
