Manchester City and Spain star Rodri remains a leading contender for the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
Despite being sidelined with a serious ACL injury, Manchester City midfielder Rodri is set to be celebrated by Nike as a frontrunner for the 2024 Ballon d’Or. The Spanish international enjoyed a standout 2023/24 season, guiding both his club and country to major victories, including leading Spain to Euro 2024 glory with a win over England in the final.
According to reports from AS, Nike is preparing a special tribute for Rodri, designing golden boots to commemorate his potential Ballon d’Or success. The boots will feature elements related to the prestigious award and serve as a tribute to the winner.
However, Rodri may not be able to wear the boots in competitive play anytime soon, as he is likely out for the rest of the season due to the injury he sustained against Arsenal.
Rodri faces stiff competition for the Ballon d’Or, with Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior also a strong favourite after leading his team to another Champions League title. Nike is reportedly preparing similar celebratory gear for Vinicius, ensuring recognition for both stars regardless of the final outcome.
If Rodri wins the Ballon d’Or, he would become only the second Spaniard ever to receive the award, following in the footsteps of Luis Suarez, who claimed it in 1960. The winner will be announced at the ceremony in Paris on October 28.
