The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has turned down the N27,000 new National Minimum Wage adopted by the National Council of State on Tuesday.
The General Secretary of the congress, Dr Peter Ozo-Eson, made the mind of the congress known to the press ) on Tuesday in Abuja.
The congress stated that since the Tripartite Committee has submitted its initial report, the council has no power to override the amount initially agreed upon.
“It is abysmal of government to be delaying the submission of an Executive Bill to the National Assembly and by wrongfully adopting N27,000 through the council of states,” he said.
Naija News understands that an emergency meeting has been called by the congress to deliberate on the deadline the congress gave to the federal government to submit the executive bill on the matter to the legislative.
Ozo-Eson warned that an economic shut down is eminent if the government does not act as promptly as required.
“This is because workers should not be held responsible for any development after its NEC meeting on Friday,’’ he said.
