*Owner Marinakis fires coach minutes following 3-0 defeat, ending a 40-day reign marked by four straight losses.*
Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Ange Postecoglou, firing the Australian just minutes after a 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.
Club owner Evangelos Marinakis moved immediately following the final whistle, terminating Postecoglou’s contract after a fourth consecutive loss in all competitions. As boos rang around the City Ground at full-time, the manager left the pitch unaware his 40-day tenure was already over.
The decision cuts short a reign that began with Postecoglou’s defiant promise that, given time, his story always ends with “me with a trophy.” Marinakis, however, decided the narrative needed an early conclusion.
The match that sealed his fate saw Forest start brightly but fail to score. After a goalless first half, Chelsea dominated, with Josh Acheampong and Pedro Neto scoring twice in just over two minutes after the break.
The exodus of home fans began when Reece James added a third goal late on, prompting Chelsea supporters to chant “you’re getting sacked in the morning” at Postecoglou. The dismissal, however, came even sooner, with the club announcing the news before the night was over.
