Omar Marmoush Reveals Preferred Role After £59m Manchester City Move

Versatile forward aims to shine in No. 10 position as Guardiola reshapes squad.

Manchester City has completed the £59 million signing of Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt, marking their third major acquisition of the January transfer window. The move underscores Pep Guardiola’s determination to strengthen his squad as the reigning Premier League champions fight to salvage their season.

The 25-year-old Egyptian forward, who has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal, expressed his excitement about joining City. “Manchester City is one of the biggest clubs in the world over the past 10 years, so it was not a question,” Marmoush said. “It’s an honor to be here, and I’m ready to give my all to help the team.”

Versatility and Goals

Marmoush arrives with an impressive track record, boasting more goal involvements this season than Harry Kane. Known for his versatility, he’s comfortable playing in various positions, including as a left winger, right winger, central striker, or even as a No. 8 or 10. “I feel most comfortable behind the striker in the No. 10 position where the way to the goal is quicker,” he explained.

The forward also emphasized his competitive spirit and pace as key attributes, saying, “I always want to win. On the pitch, I am fast, good on the ball, and I look to exploit spaces. I’m here to contribute to City’s winning ways.”

City’s Busy January Window

Marmoush’s signing follows the arrivals of defender Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens (£33.6m) and midfielder Vitor Reis from Palmeiras (£29.4m). However, Guardiola isn’t done yet. Reports suggest that City is considering moves for additional reinforcements, including Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.

Luiz, who previously played for City, has struggled for game time at Juventus and could be a viable option to strengthen Guardiola’s midfield. Meanwhile, Wharton remains City’s top target, though a mid-season deal with Crystal Palace may prove challenging.

Replacing Kyle Walker

City is also in the market for a right-back, with veteran defender Kyle Walker reportedly finalizing a move to AC Milan. Among the names linked to replace him are Joshua Kimmich, who could reunite with Guardiola, and Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso.

The Road Ahead

After an uncharacteristic slump, City finds themselves battling for a top-four finish rather than the title. Marmoush’s arrival and potential further signings reflect the urgency to regain form and secure Champions League qualification.

As the transfer window nears its close, all eyes will be on Guardiola and City’s next moves to reinvigorate their squad and season.
