Palace Chairman and Manager Confirm Eberechi Eze’s Departure After Emotional Victory Over Fredrikstad.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish and manager Oliver Glasner have confirmed the departure of star player Eberechi Eze, marking the end of a significant chapter for the club following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Norwegian side Fredrikstad on Thursday.

The victory, secured by a goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta, was overshadowed by the news that Eze, who was left out of the matchday squad, will not travel for the second leg and is expected to undergo a medical with Arsenal imminently.

The situation unfolded on Thursday morning when Glasner received a call from the England international. “Honestly, I expected he would start today for us,” Glasner revealed to Channel 5. “But he called me this morning and said he doesn’t feel well to play in the evening. Of course, I have to accept it.”

After the final whistle, chairman Steve Parish addressed the inevitable, confirming the 27-year-old playmaker’s move away from south London. “We have to move past it,” Parish stated. “He has been fantastic for the club and we all love him… we are pleased he will go on to fulfil the other ambitions that he’s got.”

Glasner was even more definitive, shutting the door on any speculation about Eze’s future. “Ebs will not play for us any more, so it does not make sense to talk about him. It’s gone,” he said, wishing the player well at his new club.

The departure immediately turns the focus to the urgent need for reinforcements. Both men admitted the current squad is dangerously thin, with only two new signings—left-back Borna Sosa and goalkeeper Walter Benitez—arriving this summer.

Parish promised action, invoking the old adage, “The King is dead, long live the King. We have to find other players to support the team and Oliver Glasner. We will bring in players. It is about finding the right players.”

However, Glasner’s frustration was palpable, pointing out that with just ten days left in the transfer window, time is of the essence. “For us now, it’s very, very late,” the manager said, stressing it was a statement of fact rather than criticism. He revealed the team had only 14 fully available senior players for the match, a precarious position with a congested fixture list.

The Eagles now must quickly regroup for a Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest on Sunday before returning to Norway to secure their Conference League fate against Fredrikstad next Thursday.
