17-Year-Old Defender to Finalize Move to Old Trafford but Won’t Join Until April
Paraguayan left-back Diego León is set to take a major step in his career as he arrives in Manchester today to undergo a medical and finalize his transfer to Manchester United.
The 17-year-old rising star has reportedly agreed to a deal worth between £4 million and £6 million. However, due to age restrictions, León will not officially join the Red Devils until April, when he turns 18.
León Reflects on a Dream Come True
Speaking about the move, León expressed excitement and gratitude: “It was just a dream, and now I’m going to experience it all. I’m going for the check-ups, and I’ll be back on Tuesday,” he shared. The young defender has already begun studying English to prepare for his move.
After completing his medical, León is expected to spend a few days in Manchester before returning to Paraguay on Tuesday. United are considering loaning him back to his current club, Cerro Porteño, for the remainder of the season before welcoming him to Old Trafford in the summer.
A Promising Talent
León’s talent has not gone unnoticed, as he has been named in Paraguay’s squad for the South American Under-20 Championship in Venezuela, taking place from January 23 to February 16. His performances in the tournament will provide further insight into the qualities that caught the eye of Manchester United scouts.
First Signing Under Amorim
If the transfer is completed, León will be the first signing under new United manager Ruben Amorim. The move underscores the club’s focus on nurturing young talent and building for the future under Amorim’s leadership.
As León inches closer to making his dream a reality, Manchester United fans will be eager to see what the promising left-back brings to the table when he finally dons the iconic red jersey.
