PSG Secures Third Successive French Crown as Monaco Falls to Lyon Defeat
Paris Saint-Germain has officially secured their third consecutive Ligue 1 championship with three games remaining, following Monaco’s 3-2 loss to Lyon. The triumph marks PSG’s twelfth time topping the French top tier, solidifying their dominance in French football.
The path to the title was all but confirmed after PSG’s 3-3 draw against Le Havre, leaving them 12 points ahead of second-placed Monaco with four matches left for the challengers. Monaco’s defeat to Lyon sealed PSG’s championship victory, prompting celebrations among players, coaching staff, and club officials.
Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi expressed pride and gratitude, stating, “Congratulations to all the players, our coach Luis Enrique and his staff, Luis Campos and his sports department, and everyone at the club.” Al-Khelaifi emphasized the collective effort that led to PSG’s success and praised the unwavering support of the fans throughout the season.
This season has been remarkable for PSG, with just one league loss to their name, along with a strong showing in the UEFA Champions League where they will face Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals. PSG’s league record includes 20 victories from 31 matches, with an unbeaten streak in away games.
The club’s dominance in Ligue 1 has been a consistent theme since Qatar Sports Investments took over in 2011, winning ten titles in that period. Al-Khelaifi reflected on the significance of winning the league for the 12th time, highlighting the unity and determination within the team.
While PSG celebrates their success, the relegation battle in Ligue 1 continues, with Clermont securing a lifeline after a convincing 4-1 win over Reims. The victory has given Clermont hope of avoiding relegation, with crucial matches against Metz and Lorient on the horizon as they fight to remain in the top flight.
