Paul Pogba’s Comeback Dream Dealt Another Blow with New Injury

Just as the World Cup winner was on the verge of a return, a fresh setback and a sudden coaching change plunge his Monaco debut into uncertainty.

In a cruel twist of fate, Paul Pogba’s long and arduous journey back to professional football has hit another roadblock. The Monaco midfielder, who hasn’t played a competitive match in two years, has suffered a new “minor injury,” jeopardizing his planned return to the pitch next week.

The 32-year-old’s career has been on hold since a 2023 doping violation led to a suspension. After his ban was reduced, he began training with his new club, Monaco, this summer. The principality side had designed a careful, three-month training plan to rebuild the 2018 World Cup winner’s fitness, with a target debut set for a Ligue 1 clash against Angers on October 18th.

However, those plans are now on hold. According to reports from Nice-Matin, Pogba has sustained a muscle issue. While the club moved quickly to dispel rumors of a more serious knee injury, this new problem is the latest in a series of small setbacks in his intensive training regimen. As a result, his long-awaited debut for Monaco is once again delayed, with no new date immediately confirmed.

Compounding the instability, Pogba’s comeback efforts are now set to continue under a new manager. Reports confirmed on Thursday that Monaco has decided to part ways with head coach Adi Hutter. The club is expected to appoint former West Brom defender Sebastien Pocognoli as his replacement, adding another layer of uncertainty to Pogba’s path back to the game he loves.
