The manager reflects on the club’s poor form and vows to find solutions, while acknowledging his position could be at risk.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has candidly admitted that the team’s recent struggles have put him under significant pressure, even suggesting that his job could be on the line if results do not improve soon.
City, the reigning Premier League champions, are enduring an uncharacteristic slump. They have failed to win any of their last six matches and suffered three consecutive defeats in the league. Currently sitting eight points adrift of the top spot, they face the daunting challenge of Anfield next. A loss there could further dent their title hopes and add to the growing uncertainty around their season.
Speaking to the media, Guardiola expressed his determination to turn things around but acknowledged the challenges ahead.
“Of course, I am thinking about what I can do to help the team,” Guardiola said. “In a long career as a player and a manager, you live through situations like this. You accept them and challenge them—no complaining, no blaming, no pointing fingers. But I know the reality: if you don’t win, you’re in trouble.”
Guardiola, who has been with City for nine years, emphasized his desire to rebuild and steer the club through this difficult period.
“I want the opportunity to try and rebuild the team from now until the end of the season and into the next. I know what we need and what we have to do,” he said. “Right now, we lack the consistency we’ve had in the past, but no team in the world can maintain that level for 10 years straight. It’s a test of character and competitiveness. I have to prove myself again and find solutions—I’m trying every day.”
Guardiola also confirmed ongoing discussions with the club’s hierarchy, including director of football Txiki Begiristain, about the current situation and plans for the future.
“We talk regularly, not every day, but always after games and sometimes before. Everyone shares their opinions—mine, Txiki’s, the players’. We know we’re not here just to look good; we’re here to deliver results,” he said. “If solutions aren’t found, the club will make the decisions they feel are necessary.”
As Manchester City prepares for their crucial clash against Liverpool, Guardiola remains steadfast in his commitment to overcome this tough spell, but the stakes have rarely been higher for the legendary manager.
